Financial Controller

Tioga Construction, a highway and bridge construction company based in Herkimer, NY is seeking a motivated individual for an Accountant position. This career opportunity is for a dependable finance professional with excellent organization, communication, and technological skills. Experience in the construction contracting field is preferred.

Duties: 

  • Responsible for financial operations including GL, AP/AR, job cost accounting, bank account reconciliation, and cash flow management
  • Work-In-Progress reporting
  • General Ledger
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements by outside CPA
  • Coordinate and participate in accounting reviews, annual accounting and insurance audits, and tax returns
  • Maintain state registrations, business, and tax licenses
  • Establish and implement general company accounting policies, controls, and financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with accounting and tax regulations
  • Work with outside Health and Welfare employee benefit plan administrator to submit, record, and reconcile payments, file IRS Form 5500, perform retirement account census, complete participant retirement account statements, and maintain familiarity with the Plan documents and your responsibilities

Requirements:

  • 5 years of accounting experience (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Familiar with modern paperless accounting IT systems and software
  • Strong communication skills with both corporate and project management

Construction Laborer (Bridge Construction)

Job Description:
As a Construction Laborer at our specialized bridge construction company, you will play a crucial role in the successful completion of various bridge projects. You will work under the guidance of skilled tradespeople and supervisors to assist in all aspects of bridge construction, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities: 

  • Material Handling: Assist in the loading, unloading, and transportation of construction materials, tools, and equipment to and from the construction site.
  • Site Preparation: Help prepare the construction site by clearing debris, setting up barriers, and erecting temporary structures as required.
  • Concrete Work: Assist in the installation of formwork, reinforcement, and pouring of concrete for bridge foundations, abutments, piers, and decks.
  • Steel Work: Assist in the assembly, lifting, and installation of steel components, such as beams, girders, and trusses, using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Demolition: Participate in the dismantling and removal of existing structures or portions of the bridge as necessary.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate basic construction machinery and tools under the supervision and guidance of trained operators.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment for yourself and your team members.
  • General Support: Provide support to skilled tradespeople, such as carpenters, ironworkers, and concrete finishers, by performing tasks as directed.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Prior experience as a construction laborer, preferably in bridge construction or a related field, is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, working at heights, and operating hand and power tools.
  • Teamwork: Strong ability to work well within a team environment and follow instructions from supervisors and skilled tradespeople.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to work in various weather conditions and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Safety Consciousness: Strict adherence to safety procedures and the ability to identify and report potential hazards.
  • Basic Knowledge: Familiarity with construction tools, equipment, and materials commonly used in bridge construction.
  • Certification: Possession of relevant certifications, such as a construction safety certification or equipment operation certification, is a plus.
